Took my wife here for our anniversary. It was such a wonderful evening. Chef masayoshi and team elegantly created a eventful date night for us. Service was attentive and the staff ensured our glasses and tea cups were always full. It was a quiet ambience and i really enjoyed watching chef create each dish one by one. Truly enjoyed the sake pairing and I recommend it to all. Cant wait to come back again. Please do try to get a seat at the sushi bar, its quite worth the full experience.

Masayoshi had a selection of fresh seafood which had a refreshing sweet aftertaste. The Hokkaido uni was especially good because it melted in your mouth, leaving a sweet aftertaste. The dessert was unexpectedly delicious because the mushroom flavored ice cream had a woody aroma while being lightly sweet paired with the crunchiness of thinly sliced apple. The chef was super nice and the service was excellent.

High quality ingredients and beautiful food made with care, so why only 4 stars? tl;dr – not worth the price.

If this were only about the food, I’d have given Masayoshi five stars. But we went there during a visit to Vancouver that was all about sushi, so we visited Masayoshi, Blue Water Café, Minami, Coast (more of a seafood restaurant with sushi on the menu), Toshi, Tom and Miku. Every one of them had great food, but dinner at Masayoshi more than twice the cost of the any of the others.

Was it twice as good? The scallop nigiri at Masayoshi was transcendent. Beautifully prepared and delicious. The baby snapper was also delicious and being able to watch the chef prepare everything was a treat. But the $1,500 bill for a party of four was more than a little staggering. Only two of us had drinks (a glass of wine each) and the other two ordered the special caviar topping for nigiri.

Next time, for the same money, we’ll go back to Minami, Tom and Coast.

Honestly a very memorable dining experience. I had reservations seeing the lower ratings but the experience itself proved otherwise. Definitely try if given the chance - worth every penny.

Chef's omakase, good selection on both white fish (Isaki, Shima aji) and silver skin (Kohada), not impressed by Tuna (especially Akami). Loved the appetizers, very refreshing, great showcase of how chef Masayoshi navigates between tradition and creativity, and make the best use of the seasonal ingredients. 4.5 for the food.
